Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel [America] is, that they might be saved. Romans 10:1
The world is a very dark place. There is a great need for America to send missionaries who will take the gospel to the parts of the world where the message of Jesus Christ has never been preached. If Americans, who are privileged to have heard how they might accept Christ as Saviour, do not take the responsibility laid upon them to share the gospel with those who live on foreign fields, then how will they ever hear? Men like William Carey, Adoniram Judson, Hudson Taylor, and countless others have laid the groundwork for going to the mission field; there is no denying that there is a great need to share the Light in these dark places.
Yet, as important as it is to share the gospel in other countries, the burning question remains: who will go to America? This nation is falling apart at the seams. America has always been a beacon of hope to the nations of the world, but if America doesn’t see a revival, then soon there will be no missionaries that America can send. The Frenchman Alex d’Toqueville observed that, “America is great because she is good; and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” America is very quickly falling away from being good. The morality in this country has hit an all-time low. Each new generation of young people fears God less than the one before it. Sadly, if nothing changes in a nation where the Word of God was once preached with power on every street corner in years gone by, there will now be many people who will go through their entire lives without ever hearing the gospel clearly. How is it possible that Christians have let go of such a tremendous opportunity to influence a nation? We envy the results of Catholicism and Mormonism in other countries where a large percentage of the population has been converted to their religion, but that same statistic represented Christianity in America until a few years ago when we began to let the importance slip.
Second Peter 3:9 says the Lord is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. With that being the case, then God must have a plan for everyone in this country to hear the gospel. If He does, then certainly there are many Christians whom God is calling to proclaim that are not answering that call. So what about you? God is calling you to proclaim the gospel in this country? Will you carry the message of the gospel to those in this country who have never heard? Will you go to America?
